“And I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws.” - Ezekiel 36:27 And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.” – Philippians 4:19
Scripture has a way of talking to us when we look at it side by side. In the Old Testament are stories of how the people went through diffi cult circumstances. The scripture from Ezekiel explains that God brought the people to a place of decision. While he did not coerce or force the people's obedience, he used their hardships to help them see that it would be to their own benefi t to obey him.
Now we jump to the New Testament. God again doesn't coerce or force obedience upon us but has promised to provide for us all the basic necessities of life. Seems so simple, yet God still provides what we need when things are lacking. Jesus said to concern ourselves with the kingdom of God, the most important thing, and not to worry about our physical needs. (Matthew 6:31-34) All our needs must be seen in the light of what the Father gave the Son. In the end, Christ received grace to live and die - to honor God. Whether we face trouble, hardship, persecution, or danger, we can always depend on Jesus. He is enough.
How does one see their needs in the light of what God gave Jesus? We do that by believing that God, as a loving Father, provides for humanity through the gift of His Son, Jesus Christ. This gift is not limited to material things but encompasses spiritual and eternal blessings, including redemption and eternal life for those who believe in Him. "Christ received grace to live and die" refers to the concept of God's unmerited favor empowering Jesus to fulfi ll His earthly mission, culminating in His death on the cross. This grace enabled Him to overcome temptations and perfectly obey the Father's will, even in the face of suffering. Lastly, Christ's life and death serve as the ultimate example of honoring God. His obedience to the Father's plan, even unto death, demonstrates His love and dedication to God's glory and purpose. His willingness to make the ultimate sacrifi ce vindicated God's righteousness and allowed for the reconciliation of humanity to God. Understanding this theological framework can inspire gratitude in believers, prompting them to live lives that refl ect this gratitude and honor God in their actions and attitudes.
