“Create in me a clean heart, O God, and put a new and right spirit within me.” – Psalm 51:10

The word “Lent” derives from the Old English word "lencten," meaning "spring." This reflects the season’s theme of renewal and rebirth. As nature awakens from winter’s slumber, we as Christians also prepare for the celebration of new life at Easter.

The season offers a striking contrast to the joyous celebration of Easter, serving as a stark reminder of the path of suffering and sacrifice that preceded the resurrection.

During these 40 days, we as believers embark on a spiritual journey. It is a time for prayer, repentance, fasting, and almsgiving. This period offers preparation and renewal, inviting a deeper relationship with God and closer alignment with the teachings of Jesus.

The season prepares us to carry its message of hope and renewal into our lives and the world. We are called to do this throughout the remainder of the year.

Engaging fully in the Lenten season allows us to reflect on our own spiritual lives, recognizing the power of grace, and to emerge with hearts renewed and ready to celebrate the new life offered in Christ.

By embracing the spiritual significance of Lent, we can experience profound transformation. This journey leads to a richer, more vibrant faith.

Beware: this journey of self-examination can reveal areas needing improvement. It invites us to confront weaknesses, biases, or distractions that impede our faith journey.
