“Therefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and
rest your hope fully upon the grace that is to be brought to you at
the revelation of Jesus Christ.”
1 Peter 1:13 KNJV

Therefore, prepare your minds for action; be self-controlled; set your hope fully on the grace
be given you when Jesus Chrst is revealed.” 1 Peter 1:13 NIV

“So roll up your sleeves, get your head in the game, be totally ready to receive the gift that
coming when Jesus arrives.” 1 Peter 1:13 The Message

How times have changed! Even through our translations of Bibles. History is important to
understand the context of what people in their reality had to endure in their time. Look at the
underline bold words above taken from 3 different versions of Bibles. “gird up” - Biblical times men & women wore long skirtlike outfits. If they tried to run they would stumble. They would gather up the material and pull it way up so their legs were free to run or walk fast. Now that makes more sense when reading that KNJV. All three are meaning the same “to gather up your thoughts, be prepared for what is about to happen” Which is the coming of Jesus Christ.

Now Look at just the underlined words. How the word “grace” has become a “gift”. Over this next season, let us take time to gather our thoughts, roll up our sleeves in order to get our head in the game of knowing how God’s grace is a gift and we should thank him each and every day for his gift of forgiveness and unconditional love.

Peace,
Your SAM, Wendy
